BULGARIAN RECYCLING ASSOCIATION (BAR) was established in 1998 under the name “BULGARIAN ASSOCIATION OF METAL TRADERS” /BATM/.
In 2004, the Association was renamed into the Bulgarian Recycling Association /BAR/.
Brief history
Bulgarian Recycling Association (BRA) was established in 1998 under the name Bulgarian Association of Metal Traders (BAMT).
It is a member of the largest recycling association in the world – Bureau of International Recycling /BIR/, as well as the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce (BCC) and the Association for Business Initiative (ABI).
The association has a permanent representative in the International Council for the Environment in Brussels.
Our mission
BRA is a non-profit association uniting Bulgarian and foreign companies that deal with the management of secondary raw materials from non-ferrous and ferrous metals, paper, plastic, glass and others.
The association was established with the purpose to:
- Protect the interests of companies involved in the recycling of secondary raw materials in our country;
- Conduct an active dialogue with state institutions in defense of the rights of its members;
- Research and assist in the resolution of cases related to legal, economic, financial, environmental, customs and other issues related to waste management;
- Organize seminars, workshops, conferences and others, with a view to promoting public engagement.
WHY WAS THE BAR CREATED:
BAR also contributes to increasing children’s environmental awareness through interactive means, campaigns and presentations.
As a member of the Bulgarian Institute for Standardization, which is the national standardization authority in the Republic of Bulgaria, BAR participates in the technical committees for developing standards for WEEE, waste tires, etc.
In this regard, the Association is also engaged in the development of technical guidelines and training activities for various regional and local environmental authorities, municipalities and the private sector.
BAR also prepares recommendations for measures and activities to address challenges in the waste management sector.
Analyzing the current situation regarding the different materials for recycling and their management is also part of the daily work of the Association.
The association participates in the development and coordination of documents for legal and strategic planning at the national level, including in relation to construction, domestic and other types of waste.
BAR is a member of the Environment Working Group and, at the national level, participates in the development of national positions related to European legislation and policies, such as the EU circular economy legislative package.
